| Message | in regards to the benefits of gear ratio changes. Look back thru my post history and you will find calculations that allow you to figure speed vs rpm. In brief, lower gearing serves as a torque multiplier. This allows the car to accelerate faster thru the entire powerband. In drag racing, it produces quicker 60' times and ETs, and MPH. In track racing, they provide better responsiveness and increased torque for more available acceleration. In daily driving, the car will feel "lighter" ( taking of from a stop will require less effort), and the added acceleration noted in racing conditions is available. The analogy that suites me best is to picture yourself at rest on a bicycle: You can accelerate much quicker and effortlessly if you shift into the large sprocket at the back wheel, rather than a smaller one (try it and see)....that is the effect of the lower gearing. Hope that helps, Mark
